Hej , I'm doing my phd in Stockholm and I need some advice on car repair without insurance. Sorry for any inconvenience caused by my post in English. I can only read some simple Swedish :(

I had collision with a foreign car and my insurance can't help on the repair as I just have half insurance. I have claimed at Trafikförsäkringsföreningen but it seems to be of no use. Now I'm have to find a place to repair my Volvo S80 2007 on my own.

I have received an inspection report from a Volvo authorized service company, which said that every part shall all be replaced with brand new ones and the total cost would be around 100,000 sek, though my car would worth around that if not broken. The new parts would cost around 54,000 sek, or 67,000 with VAT.

I have some pics uploaded for reference. There is no damage on the engine part. Nobody sat on assistant driver's seat on collision, and only the airbag on right sidewindow poped out. But the repair list shown that I have to replace all the airbags and safe belt parts on the right, including the complete roof

Would you please take a look and tell me whether I can repair my car in a reasonable cost? I appreciate if anyone could recommend a repair workshop in Stockholm. Thanks a lot!

Mvh

I would probably scrap the car.
Thank you for your reply!

As far as I know, such damage can be repaired for less than 20,000 sek equivalent in China, and there are two car dealers who are highly interested on buying my broken car. It's might not be a good idea to scrap it.

But I don't wanna get rid of this car with a bargain price, the mileage is 70,000 km only. I'm considering arrange some used parts from China which cost only 10% to 20% of the listed new price....

I'm working as quality engineer at a company (EBP.se) making the OEM spare parts (Body components) for Volvo, Aston Martin, Audi and I can only say this. I DON'T recommend buying parts from China if it's not a 100% OEM part. I've seen what a copied hood can do. There is no such thing as a demolition zone and what it does is it will brake the hinges and send the hood flying through the coupe. It's a guillotine.

Only speaking for myself but I would take the cost of fitting OEM parts on it from a 100% sure source.

Thanks a lot for your warning! Normally there are three prices for one available part in China: original/oem, 3rd party copied, and used from scraped cars.

I will try to get original/oem and used but trustable parts only, if I decide to import those from China

Where you the one that caused the accident? Is that why Trafikförsäkringsföreningen can't help?
You said you crashed with a foreign car.. is this any diffrent than if you crashed with a car from sweden?

Is your car registered in sweden or do you have a car with a foreign registration number?
Do you have your insurance in a swedish insurance company?

You can test to call and ask for a price at other Volvo authorized service companies in other cities. When doing service I have (when i lived in Stockholm) gone to Gävle for services sometimes. The 120 0000km service on a car I had costed 8900kr in Stockholm and i got away at around 6000kr in Gävle. Same service and both were Volvo authorized service centers.

And a last question.. that you might not want to answer.. ;) Why did you only have a half insurance for such a new car?

A series of good question! :)

The accident occurred at a cross under construction, traffic light temporary removed, and a very ridiculous lane plan:

https://picasaweb.google.com/1100858366 ... 6676841586

When I stopped and looked around, my sight was somehow blocked by a van in front, and when I turned left, an overspeed car from opposite hit me. :(

My car is registered in Sweden with Volvia insurance, and Volvia said I can't prove any responsibility on the other car.

I claimed at Trafikförsäkringsföreningen and they did forwarded my claim to the opponent insurance company. Sad of all, it's a 3rd party insurance agency who helps foreign insurance company to handle claims in Sweden. What I received is: Please wait in patience, we have to check the policy at first. Then, nothing else till now. :???:

The opponent is from Latvia, both car and driver. I think it would be better to crash with a Swedish car, at least I won't worry about the response time of Trafikförsäkringsföreningen claim.

Now my car is not able to drive on road. I don't know how much it would cost if towed to other city. Anyway, I will have a try!

And to your last question, I have a driving experience of 11 years till now, and now I have to pay for my extra confidence

Thanks a lot!

I feel sorry for you.. It's very hard to prove that someone was speeding. I have been in to many close calls because of other drivers... so now I have got a dashcam. It's to late for you for this time, but if you keep driving with half insurance it might be a saviour! ;)
Someone in my dashcam-thread just linked to this cam that is pretty cheap: http://sosafe.utsab.se/product/Dashcam_ ... uct_id=133
If you don't understand swedish you might understand the universal language of idiocy that is shown in some of the clips I have uploaded here:
http://www.jagrullar.se/forum/viewtopic ... &sk=t&sd=a

Transportation for the car to other cities will probably cost about 2000-3000kr depending on how far you send it. But if you should find a price say 20 000kr below the one in Stockholm this shouldn't be a big problem?
I found 2 companies that does this when googling:
http://www.motortransport.se/
http://www.eurotransport.se/

There should also be a rebuilt SAAB that can transport cars and be driven with only B-licens.. Statoil Veddesta should have that..
http://www.statoilveddesta.se/
It might be at the same cost as transporting it with any of the other firms.. guess it's at least 1500kr/day plus a per km cost.

Good luck.. :)

Thanks for your information!

And I do have a dashcam but it was not working when the accident occurred. I pulled out the charger to charge my iphone one day before and forgot to resume the dashcam. Please call me stupid.....
