Hi guys!

I've a V70 III (new body), MY'08, 2.0F. Problem is that I can't adjust the brightness of instrument panel (i.e. speedometer and tachometer) at all - it is equally bright during day and night-time, and rotating dimmer wheel near fog light buttons doesn't help. This dimmer wheel changes brightness of green lighting of all buttons (e.g. buttons under the FM) - but do nothing with dashboard brightness. It is really annoying during night time - dashboard is very bright and attracts too much attention.

Any ideas? Is the speedo brightness actually adjustable on this car/this trim level?

UPD: just tried to unplug the light sensor (the one with the red flashing light) - and my radio and speedo turned to night mode!!! (white letters/black background and dimmed light). So now I'm 99% sure it is sensor. Could anybody advice the part number?

Thank you!

While I am not intimately familiar with your particular model year, I am pretty sure the instrument panel should be dimmable. If there is a problem, it is likely to be one that the car is already "aware of" via its diagnostic system. So if I were you, I'd start by having the DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) read. Your Volvo dealer can do that for you and also tell you what the codes mean. It'll cost a little bit though. If you plan on doing your own repair work, at least partly, it's a good idea to get the ability to do this yourself. Quite a few of us have bought the interface you need to connect a computer to your car, known as DiCE, and the associated computer program, known as VIDA. You find them on ebay as well as other places for reasonable money. Personally, I bought mine here:

Do you know where the daylight sensor is located? People says it is combined with the red alarm indicator under the windshiled. I've tried to cover it/flash it with light but nothing happens...

The fact that nothing happens is an indication as good as any that something is wrong with that sensor, or the evaluation of it. If I place a cap over my sensor, in daylight, I have night-time dashboard illumination after a short delay.
