Hi Volvo fan
I`m new hear so its my first thread. Just bought a 2004 Diesel Volvo V70 MK2 96KW or 131 HK, and I am going to change my brake pad and discs. However I need You guys help. I just figured out these brakes have been changed before I got this nice car. They are now Brembo calipers and disc`s. I thought they were original on the car, so I did`nt make any question about them. Silly me. I took some pix, maybe somebody know what I need here, cant put it out to service, low on money, so must do it myself. I figured they have changed to another Volvo speck, maybe a newer model. I would really appreciate if somebody would recognise these calipers and disks, and maybe let me know where to get some replacements. I know Brembo Original disc are super expensive, so I need alternative, I love motorcycles, so I know about EBC and such. Or maybe Bosch have something. I need full sett, discs and pads, front and back. If anybody have any idea, please let me know. Thanks for a great Forum anyway, jacki : ) PS I enclose pix here, so you all can se the bad state these brakes are, calipers work fine, and brakes are super great.

Red painted Volvo brakes with Brembo stickers on.

The discs don't look too bad. Check that they are above minimum thickness, brush off the rust from grooves and edges with a wire brush, put some new black paint on the hub, clean and grease the mounting surface and they are good to go. With new brake pads the surface rust will wear off quickly and expose nice shiny metal..

I would be more concerned about the wet spots on the (Volvo) calipers, that might imply that they are leaking.
Check that the pistons are moving freely, if not you will need new calipers or rebuild the old ones. Rebuild kits with new pistons and gaskets aren't expensive but it is a messy job.. Some new red spray paint will make the calipers look as new. I think they will work as well without the Brembo stickers.
The contact surfaces on the brake yokes likely need some rust removal and smoothing, and the caliper slide pins along with their rubber bushings need cleaning and lubrication. Pretty obvious when you remove the calipers.

And yes, the brake fluid needs to be replaced every 2-3 years. The water content is expected to become 3% after 2 years of use, that will lower the boiling temperature from 300C to ~150C and furthermore rust damage might develop on the inside of the brake system. Believe me, been there

Edit: a Dremel equipped with a small diamond wheel point would probably be perfect for removing rust from the disc grooves.

What the Fffff. Thanks you Guys, I really appreciate it. I`m an Idiot : ) but I thought wrongfully they were Brembo. So its good I decide to check with you Volvo guys, before I bought something that wouldnt work.
Now that you guys remarke it, I can se that there is something wrong of course hehehe I need to get a pair of glasses and check out my brain a bit : )
